BNSF Logistics Facility
The BNSF property is a railcar storage -in-transit(“SIT”) logistics facility that is critical to BNSF’s product transportation business with major petrochemical companies located near the Port of Houston, including ExxonMobil, Chevron and Bayer. The Property was purpose-built for BNSF in 1997 and BNSF has expanded on five separate occasions.
The BNSF serves a warehousing and logistics function for BNSF’s petrochemical customers to transport petrochemical products (primarily in the form of plastic pellets) to customers across the United States. Plastic pellets are produced as part of the petroleum refining process and feed the extrusion process to create materials that are part of the majority of manufacturing processes in the U.S. The area surrounding the Port of Houston has the largest concentration of petrochemical plants in the United States, including Exxon Mobil (one of the largest petrochemical plants in the world). Chevron, Conoco Philips, Bayer, Dow Chemical, Total SA, Lyondell Bassell, Occidental Petroleum and many others. These customers are strategically located in Houston due to its proximity to the oil & gas resources in Texas and has the availability of critical transportation infrastructure, including BNSF’s rail services.
